Monday Musings: January 26

Fans of the Starz Outlander series, rejoice!  We have our first trailer for the midseason premiere on April 4.  You can check it out here.

So, I have a few thoughts on what we might be seeing here, based on the book.  And based on the fact that I just re-read the book, so it’s fresh in my mind currently.  Spoiler alert for those who are watching the series but haven’t read the book!

It’s interesting to note that this is the first episode that will be from Jaime’s point of view instead of Claire’s.  This, to me, is one clue to where he is/what’s going on.  You’ll also note that there an unidentified woman walking towards him near the end of the trailer.  It’s not Claire, since this woman is blonde.  And given that we last left Jaime’s in Black Jack Randall’s window pointing a pistol at him, you might wonder where he went after that little adventure.

Well, in the book, he and Claire flee to Jaime’s ancestral home of Lallybroch, where they stay for a while until Jaime is betrayed by one of his tenants and taken to Wentworth prison.  My assumption is that once the current situation with Black Jack is resolved, the story will move to Lallybroch for an episode or two.  This would be consistent with the story being from Jaime’s POV, at least for a little while, and it would also explain Jaime being in a peaceful setting.

And that mysterious woman?  I’m betting it’s Jaime’s sister Jenny, whom we last saw supposedly offering herself to Black Jack to save her brother’s life.  There’s a small chance that, if this is in a different location, that it’s Laoghaire, whom we last saw tricking Claire into wandering into the middle of a witchcraft trial.

No matter what happens, I’m looking forward to this show’s return.  It has been a great adaptation of the book thus far, and I’m eager to see how the novel’s later events play out on screen.

    • Nope, I’m only on number four. I read one and two a long time ago, and when the series started up, I started re-reading with the intent of getting through the whole thing.
